Beasley has never been an artist to rest on laurels, or to be driven exclusively by financial successes. Eventually, his two-decade investigation of hard-edged harmonies -- critically acclaimed then and now -- led Beasley towards the opposite impulse: a desire to capture movement and organic lines. This was the origin of the intersecting oval of the Disk Cantata Series.
